Filipe: Sosa is a great addition

Filipe Luis has welcomed Jose Sosa’s signing at Atletico Madrid, whilst determined that focus is only on Malaga this weekend and not on Barcelona.

Los Colchoneros are today wrapping up the finer points to an initial six-month loan deal for former Bayern and Napoli man Sosa, from Metalist Kharkiv and the club’s Brazilian full-back sees the value in his arrival.

“He is a great player. We know him and have seen him play,” explained Filipe to reporters today.

“An addition to the squad always helps because the season is long and there are many games.

“Simeone has already worked with him and he certainly brings much to us.”

Atleti come out of the winter break joint top of La Liga, behind Barcelona only on goal difference.

“We have our philosophy, we think about every game, we want to be up there in every competition, but without looking beyond the next game.”

The next game is Week 18’s trip out to Malaga.

“It will be very difficult because they have a great team and have improved a lot. They are very strong at home.

“We have the absences of Gabi and Raul Garcia. They are important absences, but the squad is ably compensated.

“We will do our job well to achieve the three points, whilst lately, whenever we have gone there, we have drawn.”

After Malaga in the League comes the mouth-watering clash with Barcelona.

“Knowing our Coach and this group, we are not thinking about Barcelona. Malaga’s game is crucial and are the same three points available as will be against Barca.

“Much remains before we can think about that game.”

“He is a player with a great projection and future at Atletico but why not rule out a move? Other players like Diego Costa, Gabi, Mario and Raul Garcia have gone and then returned and have been important.

“I do not know if he is going or not, but he is a young player and it is important that he plays. Leo has had an injury that has greatly complicated his first half to the season, but from now everything is going to get better.”
