Ernesto Valverde praised Iker Muniain’s continued goalscoring form and Athletic Bilbao’s general performance against Celta Vigo.
The Basques ran out 4-0 winners at San Mames for a 4-1 aggregate win in the Copa del Rey Round of 32, helped in no small part by two strikes from Muniain.
“It is a good moment. He is taking the chances that he has and is offering us much. He was at ease, we are very happy,” mused Valverde post-match.
“His first goal [on 21 minutes] helped to calm us down. But, there was a section of the game in which we were worried.
“We had dropped the pace a little and it was not to my liking because Celta had dropped two lines of four close to their area and were ready for the counter-attack. Then at 3-0 it was different.
“I am satisfied that we have scored four goals and did not grant too many chances in return.”
