Juan Ignacio Martinez mused that Rayo Vallecano were deserved winners, even as his Real Valladolid appeared to have things under control early on.
Valladolid are out of the Copa del Rey after a 3-1 second leg and aggregate defeat in this Round of 32 tie, in which Javi Guerra had given them the lead, only to then get sent off early in the second half.
“Rayo are a team that have many individuals and it seemed that everything was much closer with the goal for us,” began Martinez to reporters after the defeat.
“Then there was the red card and then we committed a few mistakes that cost us dearly, because we could have avoided conceded the corner where their second goal came from.
“Congratulations to Rayo, who are fair winners.”
