‘League always Elche’s priority’

Fran Escriba has conceded that where Elche have a chance in the Copa del Rey, their team selection may be conditioned tonight by League activity.

The Valencian outfit host Villarreal in the second leg of the Round of 32 on Tuesday evening, before a quick return to League action on Friday evening at home to Malaga.

“The result from the first leg is good and leaves open a door for us to advance in the tie. We are excited,” Coach Escriba has reflected this week, on tonight’s clash first.

“We have two competitions and will look to play the best possible XI, whilst we come into this having played four days ago and preparing to play again in another three days.

“We want to progress in the tie, but considering where we have come from and where we are going.

“What is more important between the League and Cup? We all know that the League is more important for the future of the club than progressing through the Cup.

“If given the choice, we will always pick the League. However, we have demonstrated that we do not give up the result in any game.

“At a planning level, the game on Friday will be tough and the players, within three days, will not recover well. We will consider this.”
