Greenpeace disrupt Madrid conference

Environmental activists Greenpeace managed to interrupt Real Madrid’s pre-match Press conference on Monday evening.

The group managed to unfurl a large red banner with white text behind Carlo Ancelotti and Pepe, as they addressed the media ahead of Madrid’s Champions League match away to Copenhagen, to kick off this evening.

The banner read: “Save the arctic, show Gazprom the red card.” Greenpeace have taken issue with Gazprom’s planned oil production in the arctic and has organised a number of protests against the company.

With Gazprom a notable sponsor of the Champions League, this is not the first time this season that the competition has been targeted, with activists managing to disrupt Basel and Schalke’s group stage encounter in October by scaling down from the St Jakob-Park stadium and unfurling a large anti-Gazprom banner [pictured].
