Real Valladolid boss Juan Ignacio Martinez believes a Copa del Rey win against Rayo Vallecano this weekend can give his team a boost.

La Pucela have won just two of their opening 15 La Liga games this term and Martinez is looking no further than victory over Rayo, despite him set to give some of his fringe players a run-out.

“Our points total in the League is very poor and there is no justification for only two wins, but right now the Copa del Rey game is the first opportunity to turn things round.

“We need to compete, while to get through to the next round would benefit everyone, but we will face a tough opponent that is courageous in attack and gets a lot of players ahead of the ball,” he told a Press conference.

“Right now the responsibility of being in the relegation zone is great and I’ll try to lift the players’ spirit, but I’ll be giving minutes to some of the players who have not featured as much.

“It’s a chance for them to stake a claim,” he concluded.
