Aguirre: Don’t kill Thievy

Espanyol boss Javier Aguirre has claimed there is no problem with Thievy Bifouma after he failed to report to training this week.

The French striker has been fined by the Periquitos ahead of their game with Real Sociedad on Saturday, after he didn’t turn up to one session.

“There is no problem,” he told a Press conference. “Thivey is healthy, strong and eager to do well.

“He is being given the same treatment as everyone else. I have spoken to him, so there’s no need to kill him for it.

“We have to now go for broke against Real Sociedad. It’s a very important match for us.

“Going into the winter break we need as many points as we can get our hands on.

“They haven’t had any luck in the Champions League, but I’m sure that will be an extra motivation for them in the League.

“Their philosophy is the same as it was last year – they’re a great side and we can’t underestimate them.”
