Escriba: Atleti are our big brother

Fran Escriba has admitted he is delighted to be going back to Atletico Madrid as Coach of Elche.

The 48-year-old was assistant in the capital between 2009 and 2011, and the tactician has conceded that he is looking forward to returning to coming up against his old side tomorrow.

“It will be the third game in a row where I’ve come up against a club where I’ve worked before,” he told a Press conference.

“But this is different because it was my last job and there are many players still there who I worked with.

“I’m very fond of the club so it’s going to be great to come up against some good friends.

“I see Atletico as our big brother. They are a team that always plays to its maximum – like us, but they have more quality than we do.

“They are a reflection of what all teams should aspire to in this League.

“What Simeone is doing there is nothing short of spectacular. He’s proved to be the boost they needed.

“Our intention is to go out and compete from the very first minute. If we don’t do that, we’ll lose. But we are aspiring to win the game.”
