Aguirre: We don’t want a draw

Javier Aguirre has made clear that Espanyol’s intention to end a run of poor form comes with the ambition of beating Rayo Vallecano tomorrow, not drawing.

Los Periquitos head out to Vallecas on a miserable stretch of form of late that has seen them struggle in front of goal and collect only four from the last 24 points available in La Liga.

“I would not dare sign now for a draw just to say that we can stop giving away these results,” Coach Aguirre has determined to reporters today.

“We are going there to win. Our delivery and good tactical organisation will be what gives us our style and strength as we had at the start of the season.

“If we are disorganised then we are not a football team.

“Rayo? They are characterised with an attractive style that has given them many points. Each match is a war and we’ll find them unwilling to give up anything, so we will have to have intensity.

“We will try to make them uncomfortable with the ball and take advantage of our chances.

“The team is alive, alert and eager to win. I have selected the best that are available right now, even as I have maintained that the entire squad is at a similar level. I cannot leave people out who have trained well.”
