‘Barcelona were a tough opponent’

Javier Aguirre has claimed that he can’t be happy after losing to Barcelona, despite a spirited performance from his Espanyol side.

Alexis Sanchez scored a second half winner as the Blaugrana beat their city rivals 1-0 on Friday night.

And even though his men put in a disciplined performance, the Mexican Coach was not pleased to come away with no points.

“We try to harm them with our game,” he told a Press conference. “I wish that our fans could come away happy.

“But we are not interested in just trading blows with Barcelona. We tried to sit back then hopefully hit them on the counter-attack.

“But there were no spaces. Barcelona are a tough opponent and played a good game.”

Aguirre then commented on Neymar’s adaption to Spanish football.

“I’m Mexican and I know all about South American football. I thought, deep down, that it would take him time to adapt.

“But he is playing like he’s been at Barcelona for years.”
