Betis ‘won’t tolerate’ fan interruptions

Real Betis have released a statement saying that club supporters threatening to stop the team from training cannot be tolerated.

On from a 5-0 defeat last weekend to Atletico Madrid that dropped the club into the relegation zone, a group of ultras met with Coach Pepe Mel and team captains Nacho and Jorge Molina at training on Tuesday.

Mel explained the next day that the fans had pressured staff to allow the impromptu meeting, having threatened to stop training otherwise.

This is a position that the club have now made clear they cannot see repeated in the future.

“Safety was guaranteed at all times. Specifically for this day security had been reinforced,” explained Betis in a communication released today.

“If there was any presence of fans at the training ground, it was strictly reserved and was on authorisation of personnel from the club.

“Real Betis officially states that it cannot tolerate under any circumstances the termination of training for the presence of people outside the club.

“ The calm in this space is essential to ensure the team’s performance. The board of directors at Betis rigorously comply with this rule, which affects both fans and all the staff at the club.”
