‘What Barca have to do is win’

Tata Martino is unconcerned with when Barcelona play in the League, so long as they win, whilst he defends his tactics against Celta Vigo.

The Catalans moved further away from Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid in the title race on Tuesday evening by playing first in Week 11 for a 3-0 win at Celta Vigo.

“What we have to do is win. It doesn’t matter when we play,” considered Martino to reporters post-match.

“If you win you can afford to be more calm in regards to what may happen,” continued the Coach, before reflecting on Barca’s approach at Balaidos.

“This was a game that we won well. We had only a period of time after the first goal that they put us on the back foot and got through to our back four.

“I did not think we were too deep. The second half we controlled things a lot better.

“We were better in the middle having varied our format and we played with Song closer to Busquets, which gave Cesc more freedom.

“This requires training and not just drawing it on the board, but we have had no time for training.

“The change in tactics? Celta were attacking many times with a three so we needed to bring Cesc closer to Busquets to help defend. I found it necessary to reverse the pressure.

“I think the win was more comfortable in the second half because Cesc made the difference with the goals.

“After Alexis’ goal we did not feel comfortable. But in the second half we managed things with greater ease.”
