Oliver: Team ahead of individual

Oliver Torres has reflected on his continued rise at Atletico Madrid but says the team ethic is what is motivating him to improve as an individual.

Los Colchoneros handed the young midfield talent a first career start in La Liga on Sunday evening and he marked it with a goal after just 13 seconds of play against Real Betis.

“It was a wonderful moment, really. To me, it was like a dream come true,” enthused Oliver to AS this week.

“The opportunity that you have waited for your whole life, and you start well, scoring a goal so soon, it makes you more confident of your chances.

“It makes me happy to see how the fans treat me. The important thing is to keep improving as a player. I think my projection is on the rise and I understand that my situation is being managed well.

“I want to be a better player and person in each day that passes. In football things go better or worse, but the important thing is to enjoy it on the field.

“On the team the key is that, we are a team. Above individualities, which are magnificent, there is a collective. Right now I have references like the fight of Gabi, the poise of Mario, of Tiago, the goals of Villa, how to open up spaces like Diego Costa, how Godin and Miranda defend.

“The team is great and we should all learn from everybody else, because each has their virtues. So individually and collectively we can improve. That’s my main goal right now.”
