Mel: Next games key for Betis

Pepe Mel has determined that Real Betis scoring points in next two games is ‘key’, because “our future in La Liga may depend on it.”

Los Beticos fell to a resounding 5-0 defeat away to Atletico Madrid on Sunday evening and have dropped into the relegation zone as a result.

“I believe the difference came in putting ourselves behind after only a few seconds,” considered Mel in reference to Oliver Torres’ quick-fire opener in the first minute.

“All that you have prepared collapses and it has been a tremendous weight for us. Atletico now are a very good team and what has happened is normal, for how we began the game.

“This is a bad moment for us. We are not used to this, and after 86, 87 weeks, this is the first time that we have dropped into the relegation zone. Now we must put this to an end and we have to come together.

“The conclusion is that the team needed to push forward for the game on Thursday in the Europa League, to lead the group, and next Thursday that same effort is required against Levante.

“The team needs unity to score points in the next two games because our future in La Liga may depend on it.”
