Barcelona have confirmed that they have lost Jonathan dos Santos to an anterior cruciate ligament injury for the next six months.
The Mexican was reported by the club earlier this week as having sustained suspected ACL damage in his right knee.
Tests have now confirmed the early diagnosis and surgery has also been determined as a necessity.
Booked in for the first week of November, the procedure on the joint will see Dos Santos ruled out of action for up to six months in recovery.
