‘Elche are tricky opponents’

Javier Aguirre has acknowledged that Espanyol need a result this weekend, but says it will be tough away to Elche.

Los Pericos make the journey out to Alicante on Saturday afternoon for Week 8’s fixture off the back of consecutive defeats to Villarreal and Getafe.

“We are obligated to get out of this situation,” considered Aguirre in today’s Press conference.

“But it is bad news that we have to go to the Martinez Valero to face Elche, it is a very complicated field and a very tricky opponent.

“In both previous games we wanted to go for the win. That longing and desire saw us fall out of our usual form of play, we gradually became disorganised and there was much disorder in our tactics.

“You always have the obligation to win, whilst sometimes you have to understand that the draw, whilst being bad at home, is still better than to lose as we did against Getafe.

“Elche is a difficult place to go for the fans that they have. They are very supportive of their team and they exude joy for seeing their team compete in the Primera Division.”
