Aguirre: We won’t stop working

Javier Aguirre reflected on the frustration felt at Espanyol for falling to a 2-0 defeat at home to Getafe.

Week 7’s Sunday evening fixture saw the Catalans felled at Cornella-El Prat by two Adrian Colunga goals on the counter-attack.

“We cannot drop our levels, we must continue and we have to do more work, we are committed and everyone here is very professional,” commented Aguirre afterwards.

“We were not comfortable. They neutralised us, it was like a 0-0 game. We tried to go for the result, but we knew we were at danger to counter-attacks.

“An imbalance cost us the first goal and then came the rush and the heroic despair. The 0-2 is a great punishment.

“There has been a lot of effort, heart and there is a sense of honour. We went wrong, clearly. Possession and intensity was even.

“Now we have to keep working in the League, we are still alive. Our fight is 38 rounds and now we have one less.

“Getafe normally do not play well on the road. They changed their players so as to compete in a field that is ours, like in the aerial game. We now have to find ways and solutions.”
