Di Maria ‘always wanted to stay’

Angel di Maria has reflected on his early-season form and determined that he never wanted to leave Real Madrid this summer.

The Argentine was speculated through the transfer window as the subject of interest from France, Turkey and England, but even with Gareth Bale’s arrival, he has remained.

“I wanted to stay from the start, because being here is the best possible thing that could have happened to me,” Di Maria told reporters yesterday, reiterating Florentino Perez and Zinedine Zidane’s recent comments that he ‘wanted to fight’ for his place.

“ It's true that it was a difficult summer in which a lot was said and many lies were told.”

“I am happy because things are going well for me. I am getting game time and I am feeling very confident.”

Di Maria was talking after featuring in Madrid’s 4-1 home win over Getafe on Sunday evening.

“The manager said so the other day in the Press conference. He wanted us to go for the kill from the start.

“We were able to control the game and we went for them from the start.”
