‘We won’t change Barca’s style’

Tata Martino’s assistant Jorge Pautasso has outlined the coaching team’s desire to maintain Barcelona’s style and to strengthen through player debate.

Debate in the opening weeks of the season has focused on the team’s development under their new Coach amid comments from players welcoming more direct elements to the playing style.

For the club’s assistant Coach [pictured, left], who took Friday’s Press conference with Martino still in Argentina to attend his father’s funeral, change is not on the coaching staff’s mind.

“We will not make any changes, we will just play the same way, with high pressuring,” Pautasso reflected to reporters.

“Without changing anything. Tata likes the opinion of the players. We will never betray the style because we came here to add to, not take away from, the good that this club has achieved over the years.

“Tata is not weighed down by coaching the club. Rather, it is a compliment for all of us to be here.

“He is still the same, trying to implement his ideas. The idea for Gerardo is to talk, discuss things, exchange ideas for the welfare of Barcelona.

“The other day, everyone knew that we were going wrong and that we were pressing badly and that Ajax flowed well from their goalkeeper.

“What Victor [Valdes] meant [post-Ajax] was that we need to be intelligent and know how to manage games based on results.

“As the best team in the world, it is important to debate, but if the players all work together, then the results will be good.

“Having players who not only are quality footballers but also self-criticise helps us to improve every day.”

Barca travel out to Vallecas tomorrow evening to play struggling Rayo Vallecano.

“Tomorrow we know that Rayo will be a complex team because although they have had some heavy defeats away from home, in their field they become stronger, they take risks and are highly attacking.

“Rayo are a team that will not renounce their way of approach.”
