Valdes: Opponents creating more

Victor Valdes noted how Ajax and Sevilla before them are examples that opponents are becoming more adventurous against Barcelona.

Barca defeated Ajax 4-0 on Wednesday evening, but saw the Dutch side steal periods of possession and convincingly create their own chances.

Following on from Sevilla’s late comeback at the weekend only denied by an even later winner, teams are showing more to themselves, according to the Catalans’ shot-stopper.

“Ajax played a good game, they have made the field big, they have opened things up a lot and put us in trouble,” conceded Valdes after yesterday’s result.

“The opponent can also play and we have to give them credit. And that also goes for Sevilla [from the weekend]. Opposing teams are coming here and creating more.”

Valdes saved a second-half penalty to preserve the team’s clean sheet for the night.

“I’m in a good moment, but I do not know if it is the best of my career.

“It would really mean a lot to me to win this year’s Champions League. I know it’s my last one with Barca.

“We defended well. We tracked back correctly and I did my best in goal. It’s important to go home with a victory.

“The fans’ support? I’m thankful for it. It gives me more confidence.”
