‘I don’t see Valdes leaving’

Former Barcelona goalkeeper Pere Valenti Mora does not believe that Victor Valdes will follow through with his intention to leave the club in June.

Valdes has so far made it clear that he will be leaving the Catalans at the expiry of his contract next summer, to try out another League.

However, Mora, who managed over 150 appearances during his career with Barca, sees a possible U-turn on the horizon.

“I do not think that Victor will leave,” Mora mused on La Xarxa this week.

“Where will he want to go that is better than Barca? Before you leave Barca they have to take you out, I never wanted to go.

“His form? Valdes is playing particularly well, better than in previous years.

“It can been suggested that he is leaving by setting the bar high and if so, he is achieving this.”

The former goalkeeper was asked for his view also on Iker Casillas’ brief first appearance for Real Madrid in months, ended by injury in midweek.

“I do not understand Casillas’ injury. My hunch is that it is an injury forced because he wanted to come off.

“Casillas is not a goalkeeper only to play in the Champions League, with Diego Lopez in the League. Iker Casillas is a goalkeeper for the League and Champions League.

“And he has the class and he is a good kid and he endures it all even as it hurts a lot not to play in La Liga.”
