Bale: Pressure down to me

Gareth Bale has determined that he will not feel the pressure of his price tag at Real Madrid, in being presented to the media today.

On from being unveiled in front of 20,000 fans at the Santiago Bernabeu, the Welshman this afternoon took questions from reporters.

Costing between €91m and €100m, it was asked of the left-footed attacking midfielder whether he will feel under pressure.

“As I said, this is a dream for me. Madrid have made a great effort to make it happen too,” Bale told those gathered.

“Do I feel under pressure? The pressure I have is the pressure I put on myself. The greatest pressure comes from myself. I want to help the team win.

“I’ve always liked Real Madrid, I have been following them for a lifetime. I love football and specifically the Spanish League. I have had a Madrid shirt since I was nine or 10 years old and pursued my dream.

“I’m looking forward to putting on the white shirt.

“The fee? It’s not about me, it’s a matter between Tottenham and Real Madrid. I wanted to come here, for a penny or whatever the price, to win titles, the Champions League and to be a better player.

“I've started learning Spanish. It's very important and interesting for me to learn the language.”

During the summer, the 24-year-old has only played the one preseason friendly before picking up a foot injury, whilst he has also missed the last week of training with Tottenham.

“I have been doing my fitness work. I look forward to training and playing here. I have had a small injury. I’ve been training, it has not been easy.

“I’m in good shape. I have worked a lot on my own. I’m lacking game-time. I want to help the team and I will take things step by step, but I do hope to play against Villarreal [in Week 4]. I am looking forward to it.

“My favourite position? I like playing in all the positions, I don’t think I have a preferred position. Wherever the Coach wants. Last year I was on both wings. I’ll do what Ancelotti says.

“I have had a little chat with the Coach, but we have not spoken in detail. I’m looking forward. I want to help the team and play 100 per cent.”

Among Bale’s new teammates are Cristiano Ronaldo and former Spurs colleague Luka Modric.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is the best in the world for me and I am looking forward to playing here with him. He is a very important factor in me wanting to come here.

“We have a great team and I hope to win many titles together. Cristiano does not need help.

“I've kept in touch with Modric since he left Tottenham. He recommended I come here.”
