Bale: A dream come true

Gareth Bale has been presented to fans at the Santiago Bernabeu as a Real Madrid player and offered some first words in Spanish.

After passing a medical and penning a six-year contract believed to be paying €7m in salary on a transfer that the club’s in-house television channel report is at a fee of €91m, the Welshman was presented to fans and the media on Monday afternoon.

A reported 20,000 supporters were at the Santiago Bernabeu to catch a first glimpse of the 24-year-old, whilst 130,000 more watched the club’s live streaming of the event on their YouTube page.

“Hello everyone, it is amazing to be here, a dream. I hope to help the team to win the Decima,” said Bale in English to supporters, on a stage that carried large images of him, one in action for Wales and one when he was a kid, wearing a Madrid shirt.

The signing from Tottenham then offered a few words in Spanish.

“Hello everyone, this is a dream come true to be at Real Madrid. I am grateful to everyone for this great reception, hala Madrid!”
