‘Bale could drag on longer’

Andre Villas-Boas has conceded that Gareth Bale’s proposed transfer from Tottenham to Real Madrid ‘could drag on for a couple of days’.

The proposed world record move for the 24-year-old has been delayed this week amid reports of relations between the clubs souring.

Madrid say that they hope the deal will still be completed by the close of the transfer window on Monday and now Spurs’ Coach has indicated that it may take at least a couple of days longer too.

“There is no new news,” Villas-Boas told reporters after Tottenham’s Europa League Play-off win last night.

“This might drag on for a couple more days. I have no control of the situation to provide a definitive answer.”

Meanwhile, reports are that Bale’s possible presentation as a Real Madrid player could be delayed until mid-September, should Tottenham extend negotiations through to Monday.

Despite the 24-year-old having failed to train with Spurs through this week and reportedly struggling with a foot injury, he has been selected in the latest Wales squad.

AS believe that because of this, should Bale complete his transfer to Madrid on the final day of the transfer window next Monday, then his presentation in the Spanish capital could be delayed until mid-September.

This is because Wales boss Chris Coleman is asking for players called up to the national team to report in the day after the close of the window, on Tuesday September 3.

It is also believed that Madrid will struggle to convince the Welsh FA to release Bale for a presentation, with both games, against Macedonia and Serbia, World Cup qualifiers.
