JIM warns of Villarreal danger

Juan Ignacio Martinez has warned his Real Valladolid side of Villarreal’s determination and capacity to create chances.

Valladolid make the trip out to El Madrigal on Saturday night eager to make up for an opening day defeat at home to Athletic Bilbao.

To do so, though, their Coach has warned of what to expect from the Yellow Submarine.

“Our attention must be absolute. Marcelino Garcia Toral gives his team a lot of discipline in their tactics,” Martinez told reporters this week.

“They can generate danger for us within two or three touches. They have a very good side, with the core from last season still intact.

“They were relegated two years ago and do not want that to happen again. The other day against Almeria we saw them create many chances to come back and in the end win [3-2].

“We are not looking for excuses not to win, we are not going to give up at El Madrigal, but to try to pick up points.”

Martinez then reflected on his work with the squad in a video session this week analysing the performance from Week 1’s defeat at home to Athletic Bilbao.

“We took from that things that are very good. It was a shame that against Athletic we did some things good, such as moving with the ball, but that we could not transform this into chances.

“Athletic won because they made a huge effort and sacrifice. We have to be suffering, to sacrifice, and when we don’t have the ball to pressure rather than back off.

“It is clear that we did not begin at our best.”
