Thievy appreciates Aguirre freedom

Thievy Bifouma is enthusiastic for his start to the season with Espanyol and is open to either leading the line for the team or welcoming another striker.

Whilst Los Pericos are still seen as in the market for another striker, Thievy looks set for regular involvement with the team this season, on from a loan spell at Las Palmas last year.

On from scoring in Week 1’s draw at Celta Vigo, it is an opportunity that the 21-year-old is grateful to Coach Javier Aguirre for.

“With Aguirre I have been given a lot of freedom in attack,” explained Thievy to reporters after training today.

“Every day I am improving and I am trying to develop and learn after the season I have had with Las Palmas.

“The President has not said to me that I will be the main striker this season, but I will accept whatever role I am given.

“If anyone else was to arrive, they will be one of the family.”

Espanyol host Valencia this Saturday evening for a first home game of the League campaign.

“We have already started working on this game. They are a good team and we must be careful.

“At a personal level I always hope to play and I want to play as many minutes as possible.”
