Aguirre: Result good, performance not

Javier Aguirre praised his Espanyol side’s belief in salvaging a draw at Celta Vigo, but admitted that it was not a good performance overall.

The Catalans fought back from 2-0 down to record a 2-2 draw at Balaidos in Week 1, but saw their Galician hosts have most of the chances.

“It was a strange game, we were not good and if they had won then no-one would have complained,” conceded Aguirre post-match.

“At 2-0 it seemed that all was lost but my team always had faith. The draw is reward for the effort of my players.

“I’m happy with the result, but not with the game. We have given away to their counterattacks, which were terrifying. The draw is good.

“I like very much this Celta team, they have enormous speed and a lot of quality with players like Krohn-Dehli, Rafinha, Augusto.

“We have noticed that Luis Enrique has done a great job in a short time. The signing of Charles has been a success.”
