Espanyol boss Javier Aguirre has admitted that his team cannot compete financially with other teams in the League.
The Periquitos play Celta Vigo on Monday evening in their opening game of the Liga season.
And the Mexican has tried to temper fans expectation ahead of the new campaign.
“Only Rayo and Elche have invested less than us,” he told a Press conference.
“How can we compete with teams like Sevilla who have spent €30m?
“But that is not a complaint. I am happy with my team and I’m sure we will compete well.
“We are hungry and looking forward to the new season, starting tomorrow against Celta.
“We know they will go all-out for a win, and I’m sure it’ll be a tough game.
“Do not forget that we lost to them last year.”
