Ozil: No hurry over Madrid contract

Mesut Ozil maintains there is no hurry for him to sign a contract extension at Real Madrid.

The German international has reportedly been in talks with the club over a proposed new deal that would see him remain at the Santiago Bernabeu until June 2019, in part due to alleged interest from Bayern Munich.

The player’s father and representative, Mustafa Ozil, has been negotiating with the Madrid hierarchy over the summer, although no significant progress has been made.

Meanwhile, in an interview with SportBild, his son says he is happy with the way things are going.

“It’s great Real Madrid want me to extend my contract. It’s satisfying because that means they have a lot of confidence in me and are happy with my performances, but for now there is nothing [on the table].

“I’m sure I can imagine finishing my career at Madrid but for now anything else is a different matter.”
