Ernesto Valverde is reportedly keen to incorporate Joseba Etxeberria into his coaching team at Athletic Bilbao.
Valverde is back with the Basque Country outfit this season for a second stint in charge of the club and has just begun preseason work, with the team’s first run-out over the weekend.
Reports are that he is contemplating bringing in a new face at coaching level, with Athletic legend Etxeberria reportedly targeted.
The two men are known to have a close bond and Valverde is seen as eager to capitalise on his popularity with senior members of the Athletic dressing room, whilst the retired forward is open to the ‘crash course’ a position at the club would represent in his coaching aspirations.
Etxeberria last season coached at youth level for Athletic, leading the club’s Juvenil team to runners-up position in the Liga Vasca Cadete.
