German defender Markus Steinhofer is in line to become Real Betis’ boss Pepe Mel’s eighth reinforcement of the summer, reports AS.
The FC Basel right-back is understood to have passed a medical at the club on Saturday morning and alongside his representatives is now negotiating a contract with Los Beticos
If there are no unexpected complications Betis are expected to announce his signing on Sunday, with the 27-year-old arriving on a free transfer after his agreement with the Swiss club expired last month.
Steinhofer is a German Under-21 international who began his career in Bayern Munich’s second string before signing for Eintracht Frankfurt in July 2008 for €900,000 and subsequently moving to Basel three years later.
