Mendilbar: Some to leave, but…

Jose Luis Mendilibar has admitted that there are still players due to leave Osasuna this summer, but that there will be ‘no major changes’ to the team.

Los Rojillos have so far brought in four signings, including Joan Oriol from Villarreal and Jordan Loties from Nancy, and seen seven players leave, including Joseba Llorente at the expiry of his loan from Real Sociedad, Kike Sola sold to Athletic Bilbao and veteran goalkeeper Ricardo retire.

In considering changes still to come, the team’s Coach revealed a cautious optimism.

“There are still some that have to leave the team and, depending on those who go some to arrive,” reflected Mendilibar in a Press conference today.

“But the best part is that there are no major changes. By the end we will be left with 22 or 23 players.

“Andres Fernandez off to Villarreal? I am not overly concerned, because I know the technical secretary has something in mind [rumoured to be Sporting Gijon ‘keeper Pichu Cuellar].

“I see more chance for Andres to go than I do for him to stay. I just hope that the agreement is good for him and for the club.”

The 52-year-old then cast his eye towards next season.

“Hopefully next season we can be more relaxed with the ball, safer in wanting the ball and not wanting to hide.

“Last year we played a direct game and I would like to combine that with fast transitions. In attack I would like for more combinations of play and also in defence for us to be more aggressive.”
