‘I love the way Athletic play’

Kike Sola has played down the task of replacing Fernando Llorente at Athletic Bilbao and enthused at joining a team whose style of play he ‘loves’.

The striker last week completed an initial €4m transfer from Basque rivals Osasuna, to return to Athletic a decade on from being released at youth level.

Part of the 27-year-old’s transfer holds that scoring 12 or more goals will see Osasuna paid a further €150,000.

“I’m very happy to be here. I appreciate this opportunity that Athletic have given me. I come to bring a lot of work and humility. I will be one alongside my teammates.

“What increases my responsibility to perform is that I am an Athletic player, that I am part of this family. I do not want to stand out from anyone.

“Comparisons with Fernando Llorente? I face this issue calmly, I have never compared myself to anyone. I am like the rest of my teammates.

“Our ambitions? It is important to have a very good preseason and move forward from there. There is a very good team here.

“I love the way that Athletic play and I think that I will fit in well with my teammates, some who I know and others who are new.”
