Valladolid confirm JIM

Real Valladolid have announced that they have hired former Levante boss Juan Ignacio Martinez as their new Coach.

The Castilians, who saw Miroslav Djukic resign at the end of the season to join Valencia, were quickly linked with Martinez when Levante confirmed that his contract at Ciutat de Valencia was not to be renewed.

The club have today confirmed the link-up, with the 48-year-old agreeing to a two-year contract.

“Juan Ignacio Martinez will be in charge of leading the new project at Real Valladolid, replacing Miroslav Djukic, who after two years with the Zorrilla has joined Valencia,” explained Valladolid’s statement released on their official website.

“The club and the new Coach have agreed that ‘JIM’, as he is known in the football world, is responsible for leading the first team for the next two season, with a third one as an option.”

Across Martinez’ two years at Levante, he took Los Granotes into a first ever European campaign with a record League finish in 2011-12, before a poor second half to last season saw the team fall away from similar aspirations in 2012-13.

The Coach will be presented to the Press later today.
