Modric: Bale would fit perfectly

Luka Modric says that any team signing Gareth Bale ‘can only win’ and has reflected that he ‘would fit perfectly’ in at Real Madrid.

The Tottenham Hotspur winger is the subject of continued speculation heading into the summer transfer market, with Madrid said to be up against Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain in vying for the 23-year-old’s attention.

The man who last summer took the leap from Spurs to Los Merengues has now commented on the issue and the prospect of reuniting with the Welshman.

“It's a complicated issue for me because I was with Tottenham,” Modric began in reflection to Marca.

“I can tell you we're friends and he is an exceptional player. I guarantee it.

“And whether the club is Real Madrid, Tottenham or another, they can only win if they sign a player like that.

“Whether he will be signed or not is a matter for the clubs. If it is Real Madrid, better for us.

“Since Madrid is the ‘Galacticos’ team, Bale would fit perfectly, he would be really good for us. He would give the team another dimension.

“His shot, his strength, his speed, his offensive power…he's the type of player who would help us take a step forward.

“Is it difficult to leave Spurs? I did it, but it depends on the person. It's still a sensitive issue for me. I don't want to talk about it.”

Last year saw Carlo Ancelotti label Modric one of the best players in the world. The Croat was asked of the prospect of now possibly working with the Italian at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“When a Coach who has won everything pays you a compliment like that, it's fantastic.

“If he comes in, it would be a pleasure and a privilege to work with him.

“You try to take the best from each manager and you learn something from all of them.”
