Real Sociedad in the Champions League

Real Sociedad have claimed the fourth and final qualification spot for the Champions League after defeating Deportivo and seeing Valencia lose at Sevilla.

Los Che held a two-point advantage heading into Week 38’s fixtures, but fell to a 4-3 defeat at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, courtesy of four goals from Alvaro Negredo.

Antoine Griezmann’s strike in the first half at Riazor was enough for La Real to pick up the three points and overtake Valencia into fourth place.

The Basques take the final Champions League qualification place and are set for the qualifying round of next year’s competition, whilst Valencia will have to make do with Europa League qualification.

Meanwhile, Real Betis secured the point required to make sure of seventh place and definite Europa League qualification, thanks to a 1-1 draw against Levante.

Sevilla’s win over Valencia also ensured that they take ninth ahead of Getafe and Los Granotes, which may be enough for European qualification should Malaga and Rayo Vallecano both fail in appeals against respective bans from Europe next season.
