Costa backs Valverde’s delay

Ricardo Costa has supported Ernesto Valverde in once more delaying talks with Valencia over a new contract.

The Coach this week confirmed that he has put back planned talks with prospective President Amadeo Salvo until the end of the season so as to avoid distraction in Los Che’s preparations for facing Sevilla.

A win for the club at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Saturday night in Week 38 will ensure the club qualify for the preliminary stages of next year’s Champions League.

“His decision is better for us and for Valencia. We have entered into a very important week and we have to be focused on the game,” commented Costa to reporters this week.

“I believe that all the fans and players feel that we are close now to the goal that was set at the start of the season.

“We are good and motivated and the important thing is to work well and prepare for the game, for the win and to get into the Champions League.

“We have always thought that if we won our games until the end of the season then we would be in the Champions League and that is still the main objective of the squad in facing Sevilla.”
