‘I could earn top money elsewhere’

Marcelo Bielsa has made his strongest hint yet that he would like to stay on at Athletic Bilbao.

It is widely believed that the Argentine Coach will leave San Mames at the end of the season, with the 57-year-old being linked with jobs in his home country and Napoli.

But the tactician has revealed that if the club come to him with a proposed new deal, he may consider.

“It does not matter if I stay or go,” he told a Press conference. “My position is only activated if the club has an interest in pursuing me.

“Only if they come to me will I be forced to respond.

“My role as Coach here is disproportionate – the club is much more important than I am.

“I do not regret anything here though, I will remember fondly the games that got us to two finals last year.

“I may sound arrogant, but I could earn top money elsewhere – it is not about that for me.

“The teams I have chosen to manage are the ones that give me more than a guarantee for success.”
