‘Poor 10 minutes cost Real’

Philippe Montanier rued Real Sociedad’s poor finish to Monday night’s game at home to Granada as reason for seeing it end 2-2.

Champions League qualification chasing La Real had the better of the play for a majority of this Week 35 fixture, only to see Recio turn up in the 90th minute to score struggling Granada a last-gasp equaliser.

“We played a good game except for the final 10 minutes. Granada to their merit came back into the game, but we also failed to control the ball when we were dominating,” reflected Montanier afterwards.

“When there is just a single goal’s difference, anything can happen and at the end we saw their equaliser.

“In those final few minutes we lacked a little bit of everything. The key to the game, in any case, was not scoring the third goal.

“If we had, we would have the points, but it could not be. We had two shots that hit the post and a good chance for the third goal.

“It is always disappointing to lose two points having played 80 minutes very good. That’s football and you have to learn.

“There is not much time, because this week is short and our next game at Sevilla.

“Clearly to get into the Champions League we will have to suffer until the end, but we are prepared to do so. We have to maintain the level of play through the 93 minutes so as to score the points we need.”
