Aguirre ‘proud’ after draw with Madrid

Javier Aguirre has insisted that his Espanyol team played with 'pride and character' as they drew with Real Madrid.

Christian Stuani's first half strike was cancelled out by Gonzalo Higuain's second half effort, but the Mexican Coach has admitted he was proud of his players.

“You can say that my team has played better or worse than Real Madrid,” he told a Press conference.

“But you cannot say they haven't played with strength, character, pride and professionalism.

“It would be unfair on our fans not to play an intense game – they do not deserve that.

“We have nine points to play for, so we will see where we can go.”
