‘You can’t play Madrid with nine’

Ignacio Camacho criticised the refereeing decisions that saw Malaga finish their 6-2 defeat at Real Madrid with nine men.

The Costa del Sol outfit were aggrieved at a number of instances in Wednesday’s clash, including an offside call for Karim Benzema’s goal, the goal scored when Isco was injured on the ground and Martin Demichelis’ second yellow card when replays suggested he didn’t catch Cristiano Ronaldo.

“You can’t play against Real Madrid with just nine men,” Camacho complained post-match.

“Martin’s sending off was appalling, and the ref was also going to send off Kameni and award another Madrid penalty, but Ronaldo told the referee what really happened.

“We were always determined to dominate possession, but needed to maintain a constant attack.

“We put on a very dignified fight tonight, but it really affects us when we concede so many goals. When Real Madrid find a lot of space on the pitch, they score a lot of goals.”
