Djukic is Valencia’s plan B

Valencia will reportedly turn to Real Valladolid’s Miroslav Djukic as Coach for next season, if Ernesto Valverde does not stay.

Valverde is only due to begin negotiations proper on extending his contract at Mestalla in June, the month of his current deal’s expiry, when Los Che’s new President will have been elected.

Links this week have returned the prospect of the tactician leaving anyway in favour of a move to Athletic Bilbao.

AS understand that Valencia are making preparations in case the 49-year-old departs and these include returning to former centre-back Djukic, who was seen as in the running for the Coach’s job last summer, before it was handed to Mauricio Pochettino.

Djukic instead stayed on at Valladolid, who are now close to securing mathematical safety in La Liga this term.

However, where Djukic is seen as sporting director Braulio Vazquez’ first choice – as was apparently the case last summer – no move will be made for the 47-year-old until Valverde has determined his future.
