Javier Aguirre will reportedly put pen to paper on a new contract at Espanyol as it is understood he has reached an agreement.
The Mexican has been in talks over the past few weeks with the Catalan club over extending his stay at Cornella-El Prat beyond the end of the season.
Aguirre, who has taken the side from the bottom of the League into mid-table security, was seen as after a one-year deal with an option in place for a second, but has reportedly now accepted the club’s wish for just a single campaign.
The Coach is also seen as in line with Espanyol’s requirements to pay him much less than he traditionally receives, due to their financial restraints.
Aguirre, who was seen as pushing for guarantees that the squad will not be dismantled in the summer, will reportedly pen his new deal in the coming days, with an announcement set for around mid-May’s home match with Real Madrid.
