Mel has had offers, but…

Pepe Mel has revealed that he has had offers to coach elsewhere, but he remains committed to Real Betis.

Los Beticos are enjoying a competitive season under their tactician and currently sit in seventh place in the table, just two points away from the European qualification places.

Asked today over progress about proposed contract renewal talks, Mel took the chance to assert his commitment to the club regardless.

“I’m always honest. I have the opportunity to go to other places, but I do not consider that,” the 50-year-old reflected.

“I am true to what I sign. Nor has it gone through my head to not respect my contract.

“It’s a matter of continuing to see if we can grow this project.”

Mel takes Betis to Real Madrid this coming weekend and dismissed the suggestion that the hosts will be a weaker side if they make changes with one eye on the Champions League.

“This year no team has won away at the Santiago Bernabeu. So it is not going to be easy. They are in their own field and they do not give anything away to any team.

“They have a great competitive urge and it does not matter to us whether they play Ozil or Modric…they are all very good.

“We must not leave any spaces, as with spaces Madrid are doubly dangerous.”
