Aguirre in contract compromise

Javier Aguirre will reportedly compromise on both contract length and salary to sign on at Espanyol.

The Mexican has turned around Los Pericos’ fortunes since arriving in November, leading the club from the bottom of the table to mid-table comfort.

Subsequently, the club are seen to be bringing forward contract renewal negotiations in an attempt to tie down Aguirre before he is free to leave in the summer.

Mundo Deportivo believe that all parties are open to the move and that the Coach will even break with the expected.

It is understood that Aguirre will be ready to sign a one-plus-one contract at Cornella-El Prat, securing him to the club for 2013-14 and seeing an automatic renewal in place for 2014-15 should certain targets be met.

For the 54-year-old, it is seen as a move to guarantee further continuity to the club’s project, but is also a break from his usual tradition of signing singular one-year deals.

Further to this, Aguirre is understood to be prepared to stick to a lower salary. When he arrived as Mauricio Pochettino’s replacement, it was on a fifth of his usual annual pay.

He is reportedly after an improved wage, but is still open to earning less than he usually does, with respect to the Barcelona side’s financial situation.
