Marcelo Bielsa was left encouraged with Athletic Bilbao’s performance despite their 3-0 defeat to Real Madrid on Sunday.
The Basques fell to a double from Cristiano Ronaldo and a third from Gonzalo Higuain, but produced a performance that left their Coach satisfied.
“We managed to play so that the game was not unbalanced and at times it favoured us, but within the context of the balance and parity, each team’s efforts produced different results,” surmised Bielsa post-match.
“We were at the best of our ability for the 90 minutes, whilst at 0-1 we were fighting to draw level and at 0-2 we remained respectable.
“The development of the game that we saw made Madrid look uncomfortable. That does not mean that the victory for Madrid has been unfair, but it is probably exaggerated.
“A goal would have done justice to our work. Our performance saw that they did not play well and we did not do too much wrong.
“Their second goal had a strong effect on the outcome of the game.”
