Espanyol President Joan Collet has conceded that all parties are pushing for Javier Aguirre’s contract renewal, as it ‘seems silly to make changes’.
The Mexican has revitalised the club since arriving in November, with a weekend win at Osasuna lifting them up 13 points clear of the relegation zone.
“I have spoken to the Coach and his renewal does not depend only on saving the team,” revealed Collet, in discussing the possibility of Aguirre signing on beyond the end of this term.
“I know that he wants to stay on and we also want to continue. We’ll talk, because there are issues that have not yet been discussed. But just as it is with the team, it seems silly to make changes.
“The task [of survival] is not yet achieved, but the gap to it is larger. The team has to keep fighting until the last game.
“Then, we will be happy whatever happens. But it is clear that the League is not yet over.”
