‘Levante can return to Europe’

Levante defender Juanfran has asserted that Los Granotes can aspire to return soon to playing in the Europa League.

The Valencians have just ended their first ever campaign in European competition, after elimination to Rubin Kazan in the Europa League Last 16 earlier this month.

However, for Juanfran, there is a chance of a return to the competition for the club, who presently sit seven points and five places off the current final Europa League qualification spot in La Liga.

“I hope I am not wrong, but I think that yes, we will play in the Europa League again,” the 36-year-old told reporters this week.

“We need to be realistic and still say, though, that what has been achieved will be very difficult to repeat.

“We realise that we did not expect to get to where we are. It was the first time we were in Europe and it has been more than what any of us expected, whilst it would have been nice to have continued it even further.

“We will not get carried away just because we are only a small way off reaching our objective of survival. We have a difficult schedule with teams like Sevilla, Real Madrid and Barcelona.

“We have done much but until we reach our goal this team is not going to relax.”
