Barcelona have made official the news that Coach Tito Vilanova is returning to Catalonia this week after treatment in New York.
The 44-year-old has been in America for the past couple of months receiving chemotherapy treatment as part of his recovery from a second round of cancer that was found in his salivary gland last December.
Vilanova has widely been expected to be back at the end of this month and now his club have posted a welcome home message.
“Barcelona Coach Tito Vilanova returns home this week,” read the post on the club’s official website today.
“He left for New York on January 21 as part of his treatment and two months later, Vilanova will this week leave the Big Apple to return to the Catalan capital.
“During his absence Jordi Roura has taken the reins of the team, always in constant contact with Vilanova, who has agreed to all decisions.
“His seat on the bench for the first team is still secured. Barca have recovered their leader. Welcome home, Tito.”
It is still not yet been made clear when Vilanova will return to full duties at the club.
