Espanyol sporting director Oscar Perarnau has conceded that the club have 'an obligation' to keep Coach Javier Aguirre.
The Mexican tactician took over from Mauricio Pochettino just before Christmas, and has since guided the Periquitos to 13th in the table.
And the club administrator has claimed that they have to sign the 54-year-old to a long-term deal.
“We have an obligation to keep Javier Aguirre,” he told 9 Esportivo. “We have signed Javier and he has been a hit.
“The continuity of this project depends on him staying.
“Everyone has been very happy with him.”
